Wonder why some do and some don't -> does it depend on how much the stuff inside is packed in tightly ?

yeah I think so too. If you try and get some out from the hatch at the bottom, which after all is what it's there for, the compost gets stuck so you can only extract a bit from the front then it's a desparate scramble with trowels and crowbars to get any more out.  So then I start bashing it from the top.

Like you say best to try and lift the whole dalek off.

Now he tells me  :lol:

Good exercise though  :D

But you only need to get a little bit of the stuff that hasn't composted down to get spuds, marrows and toms growing where they shouldn't.

The only "weed" that survives my compost no matter what is tomato seeds. I get seedlings everywhere! And why do they seem to grow so much better than the ones I actually plant!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Well i have another dalek that needs emptying and I am not a lot nearer ,but I thank you all for some amusing suggestions [I have had a few in my time]
We have had beetroots green giant.Ice kicking [dont want to mess with her] and Kate wriggling [worth watching].
Need an early night muck spreading tomorrow.
