Is it too late to start more kale off?

i did wonder, but manage to buy 8 plants for 40p so i'm not going to try

I started some about 10 days ago, the packet said sow until mid July but seeing as the weather's so rubbish I decided it probably wouldn't make much difference...

Question Aggy?

Why are you asking us when the Munty One's on tap? It's us that comes to him when we're struggling!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Onions, Leeks (if the rust doesn't get then!), PSB, sprouts (mine look poor as well, only about half the size of my PSB but have been treated the same??), parsnips, spring cabbage.

Matron mentioned winter lettuce - I tried that last year - 'Rosetta' (failed to notice it says 'greenhouse type'). They survived all the frosts and came into growth in March and were as tough as old boots! They might have done better under cloches perhaps?

I notice that nobody has mentioned Spinach? It seems there are winter varieties, can anyone recommend any please? We like spinach (mainly baby leaves in salads) but can't seem to find the variety (ies) that you can buy bags of from the Supermarket. The shop stuff is dark and glossy, what I grow seems pale and has a muddy flavour. Suggestions please?

I sowed true spinach last week. Last winter we ate a lot of perpetual spinach (leaf beat) the kids liked it at first but began to get sick of every other meal involving spinach and brussels!

"I sowed true spinach last week" - what variety please? As I mentioned, I have tried various but they seem to go pale and have a muddy taste.

I'm not sure if it's the varieties or the soil conditions causing this?
