This may seem a daft question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.  I have two Sussex Hybrids.  Clearly they are part Light Sussex, but what's the other bit??

Usually Rhode island Red if its a commercial hybrid, if its just a crossbreed, it could be anything!

The Bovans Goldline hybrid brown hen is a cross between A Rhode Island cockerel and a Light Sussex hen, and the Ambers, like my white Ambelinks are the oppposite, Light Sussex cockerel and RIR hen.  So I am told by the hatchery we get them from!

Thankyou!  They are such a joy, I don't know why I've never kept them before.

Have a look at this website and click on the left where it says products!

http://www.hendrix-poultry.nl/

This company now own most of the commerical hybrids, and they are always developing new strains.  All the ISA, warrens, Babcocks, Ambers, Bovans etc  are all here.

And if you're that bored, you can learn a lot about the hybrids from this website.  :D

I love the Light Sussex ones!!!  But if you look at a Babcock, like ours, and look at the neck feathering, its just like the light sussex, but of course the Babcock's are brown instead of white. Amazing subject chooks!!!!
