Having started really well, my leeks have gone a little pale and there's orange blotches on some of the leaves - is this Rust? If so, is there any chance of a remedy or are they doomed?

It does sounds like rust.....leeks are very susceptible to it. It does'nt do too much damage...looks very unsightly tho'. They are still edible....just strip the outer leves off! It is suggested that onions/leeks/garlic should'nt be planted anywhere near where the rust was growing in following years.

Yes your leeks have rust. But fear not mine were much worse than yours when I planted them out but all the rain seems to have reinvigorated them. Some were so yellow I was thinking of just ditching them but now the central leaves are looking much healthier. Not sure what nearby plot holders will think but you'll probably still get a good crop.

Thanks for the replies. Hope you're right HH, Dr Hessayon reckons it's fatal and to burn affected plants! Couldn't face the prospect of no leeks!
