Hi

I know there are some chillie experts on here so here goes with the question

What's the best way to grow chillies in the NW of England now I have an electric propagator and use of a windowsill then a cold greenhouse which they will share with tomatoes and sweet peppers .

I've never grow chillies before but I've got to have a go

Thanks

start in 6 inch pots with  2 seeds per pot of potting compost egg cup growmore in the pot mixed with compost . feed with liquid fertiliser every month til fruiting starts n then every 2 weeks as per cap instructions . they will grow 2 ft tall and 18 inch across so hope ya got big windowsills in the summer ya can put them outside on warm days ie inside temps = outside temps
still alive /............

Don't start them too early - I've found better results by waiting until the world is warmer and daylength longer. Mid March is fine.

Be careful, when you grow hot ones like Jalepeno they truly are hot. Should be classified as a weapon.

Not a lot to add to munties and johns post, depending what your growing you may find that they flower and then drop before the fruit appears, dont worry too much if this happens, when they are fruiting it is worth giving them a shot of epsom salts every couple of weeks, I normally use 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water, if you decide on the hotter ones (habernero etc) it is better to only grow these and not others as they cross pollinate and you wont get the heat or taste of the true chilli. I often grow the Tabasco outside (tropical Blackpool climate) along with cayenne and the hotter ones in the greenhouse.
