My Strawberries have done really well this year but I found a few with holes in them and yesterday I found a little greyish fly in one of the holes which appeared to be eating my strawberries very slowly indeed, at first I thought it was slugs! My strawberries are quite soft this year due to feeding them close to fruiting Apart from that i've had loads of lovely strawberries I just want to fix this problem for next year, pictures of how my strawberries are kept can be found in my personal gallery.

We lost a fair few strawberries to woodlice.  they seemed to live in the berries, tiny baby woodlice.  UGH


We cleared up the undergrwth and put straw round and they have not come back.

I don't think the flies themselves made the holes though. Slugs and a few bugs do, as Caddy says and then they use it.

Straw does close a few critters out. Other than that, grow a few more plants than you need, I find it  easiest to manage.
