Pruning tomatoes

I have two upright tomato plants (money spinners) in a grow bag outside.

This is my first time growing them, and they have overgrown quite a bit.  What I mean is that the plant has developed a lot of side shoots.  The side shoots have quite thick stems - developing over weeks and weeks.

Is there a point where you cannot prune or does the thickness of the side shoot stems not matter?

Also regarding pinching out the top, to prevent further growth, is this just a case to pinching out the top part of the plant?

Thanks,
Paul

Do you mean Money Makers?

If they're thick, cut them off, don't try to snap them. Stick them in a pot & they'll root to make a new plant.

Or you could just leave them!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi Paul,

I pinch off the growth tip at the top of the plant. I read that two leaves should be left above the top truss, so I do that, and then snap off the tip. I've got 6 plants so pinched out when 4 trusses had formed. Some people wait for 5 or 6 trusses, or until the plant hits the top of the greenhouse. Plenty of tomatoes forming now.

Cheers,

Mark.
