Hi everybody,

I've been lurking in here for a while but I cannot hide any longer. I too have a lotty (somewhere).

The photo was taken on 14th March 06 and the red line added in photoshop but somewhere there is 5 poles of really solid London clay.

I have had allotments before in my younger days when I was mad and grew for the showbench, but now I have matured and intend to grow FLOWERS. To keep you northern lads and lassses quiet though, I will also be growing a decent selection of vegetables, mostly of heirloom varieties.

My methods are usually contraversial but I get results and I strive to work organicly but without expending any unneccessary energy.

After 6 weeks, crocus have finished flowering but onions, radish and jerusalems are up and growing daily.

Eh up, Lad - tha's very welcome on 't site even if tha grows flowers as long as tha wears a flat cap.

Your picture of March 06 - did you really clear all that in a month or should the picture be Mar 05? Either way, you had your work cut out by the looks of things.

Clay is always hard work isn't it? Bu productive if you get it in good heart. What sort of flowers do you grow? Dahliahs or chrissies or??

Since when has Nantwich been in the North - your'e a midlander John - the North starts at that well known customs checkpoint at J20 - Thelwall viaduct!

I used to work in London and was reliably informed that the North started at Watford. I mentioned I used to live in Leamington Spa and was told 'I'd hate to live in the North'

In fact, London maps have Britain split into 3, London and the south (ends at Watford) Yorkshire and the North (also has 'Here be Dragons') and Scotland which is known as 'Holiday Home Land'

I always thought the North started at Cheshire, where the men are real men and so are the women.

I'm kidding of course but not about where the North starts.
first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is

You may well be right about where the North starts - I don't really know.

However... isn't Luton where men are men and sheep are nervous? :)

Its funny what is manly in Luton. A bunch of tough guys can walk past you and they might be wearing what look like blouses and they smell of perfume.

I don't know though, maybe the North's been corrupted by new millenium manness by now too.

Sorry Eristic though, you look like you've done good work there.

You sure Luton isn't just stuck in the new romantics era?

Whatever, I wouldn't argue with someone with the energy to transform an allotment like that one in a matter of weeks.

Hi all,

Whenever I go on the motorway I see signs for Watford and the North, therefore logically, the North is a bit further up after Watford. It reminds me of the chap I met who was asking for directions to Gepody. Apparently he was out of work and had heard there were lots of jobs in Gepody.

Anyway, yes I have now had my plot for 6 weeks and got the bill last Fri. £29 per year less 10% for early payment. That's for 5 poles. The 2 rows of green at the front of the plot are crocus in pots cleared from a clients display.

My favourite flowers are Canna and Arum but I like them all. Similarly, I like all the veg but with only 5 pole and 2-7 years waiting lists for plots,  there are hard choices to make.

It may only have taken a few weeks but it took every weekend and most evenings till darkness. I shudder to think of the hrs.  Lotty veg are not cheap.

I reckon you've done a marvellous job and obviously know your stuff - hat's off to you Eristic.
Talking of Gepody, I noticed how many French business had been bought out by ICI - signs like Vins Vente ICI and we never did manage to get to Toutes Directions despite all the signposts.

Twysted wins an online geography course!
