Hoeing methods
« on: May 29, 2008, 14:41 »
When I'm hoeing between my rows do I need to chop the weeds with the hoe or is it just to dislodge them and uproot them. I have millions of weed seedlings emerging after digging over my plot and the hoe just shuffles them all around a bit. I hope these will not take root again. Or should I be waiting for the weeds to grow a little bigger so I can chop them with the hoe good and proper.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

yes get the hoe to slide under and it brings them up and onto the soil surface where hopefully they will frazzle in the sun.

So thats the idea. Thanks.

Hoeing seems a very easy solution for the weed problem. Little and often so my fellow allotmenteers tell me.

The ideal time in a weed's growing cycle to hoe them is before you can see them - 'tis said.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Both :D  If your hoe isn't sharp it's not going to slice through anything though. ;)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
