Hen chased into a pond.
« on: May 01, 2008, 22:49 »
Something awful happened tonight. Id let my 3 remaining hens out as normal for a mooch round and went indoors like I always do. At 8 oclock my eldest son came running down the stairs saying a cat had chased one of the hens into the pond and the others were going ballistic. When I ran

out the cat had gone but the hen was up to her chest in the pond. When I got her out and wrapped her in a towel she was making funny w throaty noises. I put her on the floor and she looked as if she was in a state of shock poor thing. She just stood there with her wet wings hanging down.

She eventually went in the coop with the other 2 but Im worried what I might find tomorrow. blooming cat Ive not seen a white one before. I will have ammo waiting for it tomorrow. I know in the wild they would roost in the trees and get wet wouldnt they,. I guess I just want reassurance that

she will be ok. Theres plenty of dry straw in there.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

ours will stay out in the rain and get soaked but are always ok and dried off by the morning. I'm sure she will be fine once the shock has subsided. They do run a very high blood pressure normally so are fairly prone to shocks.

Surprised a cat bothered them, mine go for the cats if they get to near. But she'll be alright once she's dry and kept out of drafts.  :)
