Worked hard today and I am proud to open the Duck Pond.  The kids loved it and the Goslings were pretty impressed too

nice job slowef you could turf right up to the edges and let it drape over the sides.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

I wouldn't bother, 6 Aylesburys will have it looking like Paschendale in no time at all.

Thank you for pointing that out to me, I meant of course Duck Weed etc  :?

I just thought it would look a little more natural than the "black liner look" but I guess their 1/2 acre plot once fenced will be their domain and things will grow round it anyway as we don't plan to cut it but leave it for them to manage.  Unless of course it gets to overgrown.  With 2 Geese also in situ think thats unlikely

Good idea of Shaun's to turf over the edge of the pond - even if the grass dies off the 'thatch' of dead grass and soil will be somewhere for the wild plants to seed themselves - this time next year it'll look completely natural.

What lucky ducks - they've got more room than a lot of people have:!:

tell yer what i have got slowef and your welcome to a few is some marginal grasses(dont ask me the name) but if you pot them up and put the pots in the pond they will be fine,or you could plant them direct into the soil if its damp all the time, there quite tough so i think the ducks will leave them alone.if you want a few pm me and i will split some

wow what a great pond please show us more picks of it in 3 months time when it is a great big muddy stinking hole in the ground i kid you not its far to small to be a duck pond it will be full of duck manure in no time and mosies love it as a breeding medium so be prepared for plenty of bites. sorry to be a wet blanket i can see you have realy worked hard but unless a pond is of the size where it creates its own bacterial cleaning cycle then it is just going to turn green then brown and stink.
i feel rotten for saying the above i realy do but to fore warn you is better than nothing i think.
i realy hope you prove me wrong and it lasts for ages as a lovely duck pond but i wouldent go out buying pond plants just yet.

Thanks for that!!!

what size should it be then its 25ft x 18ft.  We had a digger in to make it the size we wanted for 6 ducks and we have a pond filter/pump  to clean it out.

My daughter will be so pleased with your thoughts after all her hard work:-(
