I've got tomatoes, pumpkins, squash and courgettes in the conservatory. When would it be safe to start hardenning them off in my coldframe?

Thanks, I was hoping they might be alright in the coldframe sooner as they are getting a bit big in the hot conservatory but better not risk loosing them.

Wow, that is doing well. My two pumpkins are about a metre long across the windowsill and beginning to produce flowers! The rest (toms, cucumbers, melons and squash) are doing well but should be happy indoors a few more weeks.
I realised I'd sown the pumpkins a little too early a few weeks ago so I sowed a couple more. Unfortunately only one has germinated. Someone down our allotment said they thought it might need a partner to fruit but I can't find any reference to this in my books.

Pollination is likely to be better, when you have more plants, but it is not as such necessarily needed, can also hand pollinate. :)

Great, I'll leave it at that then before I end up with a house full of pumpkins!
