I'm dipping in to a 2nd hand copy of Joy Larkcom's "Grow your own vegetables". Just come across a paragraph where she mentions a  Japanese technique for gardening off that saves you having to move plants in and out of the house. Instead you use a piece of card and brush the seedlings back and forth for a minute or so per day. I can see that this might mimic the effects of wind... Anyone tried this?

I read about it along time ago & do it sometimes when I remember but I use my hand.

Yes I use that technique, particularly on tomato seedlings, the stems grow much sturdier. It is supposed to mimic the wind so the plants grow stronger stems. Haven't noticed working so well on cabbage plants. I just run my hand over the top of them a few times each day.
