I want to (slowly) change the current conifer hedge on one side of my garden into a fruit and berry hedgerow. Both for myself and for wild birds.

I have raspberries already and am training up some brambles. What other fruits do you all suggest?

Incidentally i have apples and plums, and i dont like gooseberries!

Im thinking loganberries, maybe a mulberry to grow slowly, and perhaps rosehips for the birdies.

For something different you could try elder for elderberries or the flowers to make elder flower cordial. but keep it under control. Or what about the dog rose for rose hip syrup ? both a bit unusual but birds will love the first. I think you could also grow hazelnuts in a hedge great for the squirrels or you if you're fast enough and can beat them to it!

The wife ran over all six of the goosegog trees with the lawnmower. That was the end of them. Considering they were about 3ft tall i have no idea how she managed it!

Tayberries, yes thats another one for the list, thanks Jake. The back hedgerow is hawthorne.

Its a normal petrol mower. I have no idea how she did it, and i didnt ask! i was going to remove them and came home to find just a few stalks!

We can have small trees on our site - I was wondering about a damson. Are they hard to grow?
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
