My dad was always against putting anything to do with potatos on the compost heap for fear of spreading blight.
Is it realistic to waste peelings in this way whe we are all trying to avoid bulk in land fills etc etc??
Is it however good practice to avoid puting the haulms on the compost ?
Has anyone got better weather than we have in North Lincs ??

i compost the lot richard,if you get blight its nowt to do with your compost heap,
and the weather is just dodo i cant get any washing dry at all

ive been advised by many gardeners not to put the haulm in but peelings are ok.in my compost i have put them in and the bottom is black and well rotted now, coming on nicely for the autumn and next years spuds

I was told not to put any part of the potato in the compost.

I compost both the peelings and the haulms, unless there is any suggestion of disease and then I burn them.
