So I know that you can plant tomato seedlings very deep and they produce more roots, can this be done with anything else? How about peppers and aubergines, will they grow if planted deeply or will the stems just rot?

Well gardening is  a funny game what works for Gob's may not work for me or vice versa.

I always have problems with squash/cucubits and stem rot so I don't plant deeper than original soil level for them and try to avoid watering from above when in pots and I push a plant pot into the soil near my cucumbers for watering rather than risk it round the stem.

where the stem meets the soil and I tend to get a lot of trouble with stem rot where we are.

I just been around as I've never heard of stem rot of them, so hasn't google there is stem and etc, all rot basically which is a fungus as you say.

Don't think much to do with how deep you plant them though I don't know.

I shall read on this, new on me.

Try this for starters , it could be that I call it stem rot but what I'm actually getting is damping down but I thought that DD only affected seedlings.
Funny game this gardening  :D
