Apple crates, wooden, look great . Is there anything I could grow in 7 cm depth, 70 cm wide crates ? Other than cress ! ?  :D

Salad crops, lettuce, radish, spring onions etc. - all shallow rooted.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've seen tomatoes growing in an old decorated watering can!

You can plant in anything, as long as there is room for the roots. ;)

be careful with the watering as it will dry out very quickly - if we ever get any warm weather  ::)

That's the sort of tub I keep in the garden so watering is a bit easier.

onions, round carrots, baby beetroot and turnip.  Cabbages can also grow in shallow containers if you're ok with small heads for salad.

can you break up one carefully and add it to another and use it to make a double height box - with 140mm depth radish, onions etc become more viable.

You don't need that depth for things like radish. I grow some in cat litter trays.
