Rhubard is flowering
« on: April 02, 2008, 09:18 »
Is this a good thing or not?  I've not seen rhubarb in flower before, will it affect the amount I can remove for eating or even the taste? two of my three crowns are doing it, not quite in flower yet but can definitely see flowers forming in a stem in the middle of each plant.  I'm sure it'll be very pretty but bought the plants to eat not look at!

You should remove the flower stems as they will weaken the plant.

I take it this is just as easy as removing the stalks

You just snap the flower stem at the base???

Mine seen to start flowering on a regular basis at the start of every season. I cut the flowering spike off and have no further problems.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.
