Tomatoes flowering
« on: May 10, 2012, 19:06 »
I have flowers appearing on my tomato plants. They are about 12 inches high now and still indoors. Will this become a problem with reduced cropping?

I am going to start hardening them off tomorrow and planning to put them in their final growing spots in the greenhouse in about 8 or 9 days.

Any advice welcome, thanks.

Good to get an early start.   Think about starting to feed the plants now.    Also think about constructing a quickly applyable cover in case of frost.

Cheers,    Tony.

Hey thanks Tony. I was off to get some fleece for them at the weekend and when they go in I will put in canes for them and I will be to drape the fleece over them if required.

I have been monitoring the overnight temps in the greenhouse and for four nights running it has been over 10 degrees, last night was 13.6 degrees in there so hopefully I can get on now.

Sorry to disagree with Tony. (Not really  )

Feed once the first fruit has set.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yes, we have had warm nights this week, but the forecast is for cool nights (6C) at the weekend here.
So deffo have some fleece or polysheeting handy to cover them  ;)

Feed the fruit, not the flowers or leaves, Klefti!

They don't put that instruction of bottles of tomato feed just for the fun of it.
