« on: August 03, 2023, 16:51 »
Good afternoon everyone,   plums, leave on the tree and be damaged by the wasps or pick green and ripen indoors?

Your knowledgeable advice please.
Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Hi Tony,
may not be relevant to your tree but I found that when picking under ripe there were lots with grubs in them but if I left the fruit to ripen far fewer as the infected plums had dropped.

Not really had too many issues with wasp damage so not really an answer....

In a previous garden I had two plums and a greengage - grubs in the fruit.  But put up a pheromone trap and they gradually dwindled over a few years.  Just a Victoria and a damson on the current allotment and quite young so not much fruit;  but will put up a trap, probs next year

That is just what I have been doing for the past years and I'm finding the same.  In fact I've made a pheromone trap housing from stainless steel! :D
That dambed plum moth!

Cheers,  Tony.

Hello I'm sure the pheromone traps are for Codling moth on apples I may he wrong but the plum moth lays its eggs at the base of the tree and when the grubs hatch they go up thr tree I use to wrap brown paper with vaseline on it around the tree trunks about 18 inches up the trunks to deter the caterpillars, correct me if I'm wrong    jezza

I do the sticky band as well but pretty certain I've seen pheromone traps for plum pests - already use codling moth ones for the applw
