I would like to grow some strawberries in hanging baskets,but which ones are best,willow,wire, or the plastic ones,i have never used them,the slugs had nearly all our fruit last summer so this is war on the slug

I've used the plastic ones without saucers before, still dried out quite quickly in the greenhouse though, when it warmed up. I would put some water retaining gel in whatever you go with

I grow my Tumbling Toms in 10 wire baskets. I line them with a circle of thick plastic that comes to the top of the basket and to prevent waterlog I've spiked several holes around inside about 2 inches up so there is a well at the bottom.
If you get good roofing plastic you can re-use the liners every year. I've had mine for 8 years and they're still going strong.
Can be a bit of a faff getting the liners folded in so earth doesn't escape!
