I tried to post this before but something went wrong, if it is duplicated sorry, I went out this evening pick a swede and found it rotten, check all other the same see photo

All eaten by worms any thoughts on what has went wrong

Could be cabbage root fly - the larvae not only damage cabbage roots but can affect all brassicas including swede.  Once the skin is damaged, it can allow a whole plethora of pests in that do the rest of the damage allowing fungal rotting to set in

I would also say cabbage root fly. They also spoil radishes with their tunnels.

Okay never thought of that, the swedes were right next to turnips use one yesterday with no sign of infection.

How do I avoid cabbage root fly??

you can buy collars to put round plant at time of planting

I erected cages with fine mesh netting to keep the cabbage white butterflies out and I noticed it also keeps the flies out too (they are the size of small house flies)
