storing second early potatoes
« on: July 26, 2014, 09:17 »
We are having a great potatoe crop just working through the early s .  Just started the kestral second early s I boiled some and they made lovely mash.   What should I do leave them in the ground all foliage looking healthy.  I was thinking about digging some up and letting them dry out in the good weather to store.  I then have 12 rows main crop.  I only have sheds to store them .  I have some of the very first early which were dug up weeks ago and they are storing well.  They are small  so used the biggest ones.  How long to people manage to store main crop potatoes.

Our maincrops last through until March before they are too "shooty" usually

Kestrels store very well indeed. We keep them in hessian sacks out in the garage, sat on old pallets so they are not in contact with the concrete floor as otherwise they get a bit cold come the very bad weather, plus it keep them up out of any wet that might leak in too
