I planted a load of leeks late last year. They are still only small (about 1cm wide). I have been told to dig them up and start again as they will be no good now.
Is it worth leaving them in the ground to harvest later this year or will they be no good ?

I'd be tempted to use them for salads(spring onion), however if you do not need the space, you can leave them to see if they fatten a bit. If they start flowering, then they'll be useless.

I pulled all my spares which I late planted the other day and had half with white sauce... delicious. You need to pull them as they will bolt and flower this season.

I assume that they flower in the second year then ? hence the need to remove.
