Is this for a wooden or plastic coop?
Staffies are softer than you think.

It could be that the chooks are getting wet during the day and as they are going in earlier they are drying out in the coop, have you got good ventilation for the moisture to escape?

Is the rain blowing inside the coop?

My coop is under cover but the nest boxes get a little damp, nothing major though, because when mine go in wet, they sit in the nest boxes until i lock up, then they move onto the perches.

ventilation is good...vents are open. rain not blowing in. just damp due to constant wet weather i think.

a good idea would be to get some Stalosan F which is a dry disinfectant used for poultry. Sprinkle this in your coop and nest boxes and this will help keep the coop dry and clean :)

With the current wet but very mild weather it is very difficult to avoid this sort of dampness. Joyfull is right with the Stalosan as this will kill anything that thinks of growing. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Hi Mrs Chook,
I have sheets of newspaper lining the bottom of the nesting boxes then I put straw on top I also put paper under the perches which is replaced every morning ie I roll it up like a bag of chips with poop and dump all in one go the paper at bottom of nest boxes is changed less frequent ie when damp hope this helps  ;)

this makes it sound like condensation and therefore, more ventilation is required. :)

also in the spring when the weather is dry make sure you treat all the wood with a bat friendly preservative  :)
