Damp Chicken house!!
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:18 »
Help, the constant rain in the past 2 weeks is taking its toll on my shed conversion. Damp is starting to seep into the floor of the shed and the shed smells musty. I have increased ventilation and have put in a heat lamp to try and dry the place out but i am worried that this may not be enough.

The chickens seem happy but i am worried about disease. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You might need to raise the shed up a bit to get some air circulation under the floor - then block it off with wire because of rats etc.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Agree with noshed.

Def need to raise it off the ground in any circumstance. Your biggest threat is the floor rotting and collapsing. If you can't raise the shed, maybe you could remove the existing floor and build a new floor slightly higher up?

Yes raise the shed, it's drawing damp up from the ground, Easy way to lift them is with a car trolley jack and a few planks and bricks etc

and turn off the heat lamp ........its gonna add to the condensation with the cool nights and all the ventilation u have ...   . during the day open the doors window fully if ur able after cleaning out the shed and laying down copios amounts of shavings   the ventilation should be at the roof just under the eaves.. raise the shed by 6 inch or so and put some bricks under the corners and cross members & put wire around the sides down to the ground to prevent rats etc getting under . to help stop water etc getting into the flooring paint it with black bitumen do the sides as well about 12 inch up each wall
still alive /............
