The plot next door to me has been vacated and is up for grabs, there is a small waiting list for the plots but there are also a few other vacated plots to fill. I have expressed my interest in the plot, if I am lucky enough to be offered it should I accept? At this moment in time I could make use of a little extra space but probably wouldn't be able to use a full plot, however if I turn it down I am worried that in the future I might just regret not accepting the plot when it was available. The plots are currently only £15 per year so it is not going to break the bank and if I did get it I would keep it tidy. 2013 was my first year, the plot looked massive when I first got it but I was surprised at how quickly I used up the available space and I am thinking with the extra space I could have a longer crop rotation long enough to maybe even clear the club root from the soil and if I decided to keep chickens in the future I would also have the space to do so.

I don't want to be greedy but I have seen a lot of the plots obtained and then never tended just left to go wild, overgrown and neglected which is just a waste.

What do you think?

There are lots who will say it should go to someone who has not got  a plot at all, but....

.......... if there are enough plots to go around and you have reached the top of the list (If you have a list)

and you can make use of it rather than it being  a field of weeds right next door

then go for it  :D

I agree that it should be offered to someone on the waiting list first.

But if there are no takers, then you can always pace yourself by keeping some of it covered as you gradually work your way through its clearance.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The available plots are going to be passed along the waiting list first, I have expressed an interest as it is the neighbouring plot to mine, hoping that they will keep that one to last, I think there was around a dozen on the list but I guess some of these people will have lost interest and it might still be available after it has been offered to all on the waiting list.

I think I will just have to wait and see.  :)

I would definitely go for it if offered. You can always give it up later if it turns out too much.

Was in exactly the same position last year. Was offered another plot and took it. It made a big difference - I could leave more space between everything which made hoeing etc a lot easier. Didnt plant a lot more than when I had one plot but everything grew better. I've just dug over most of it and covered it with weed control fabric to get me off to a good start next year.

Go for it I say.

Regards WG
