We had some wood on our plot for construction of a fruit cage, including a wooden pallet.

Well, the neighbouring plot has new owners and guess where we found a load of our wood yesterday ? Yep, on the next door plot in a makeshift raised bed.

So we have taken it all back and await Allotment Wars.

we had a problem with our new neighbours, they spaded the top off their plot and dumped it at the back of ours, asked them to move it no joy after a week so OH and me dumped it all back where it came from. i think it's lack of allotment etiquette from new people to lotties more than nastyness, we have some lovely good o'l boys who i'm sure will soon knock em into shape.

I wouldn't have minded quite so much if they hadn't buckled all our fencing doing it.

New or not, surely anyone could see that something on a tended plot was not theirs for the taking ?

Yes, I agree, Newness is no excuse! I wouldn't dream of going onto someone elses plot, uninvited, let alone stealing from it!

I know exactly how you feel having been the victim of theft over the weekend but for the culpirate to be next door and have the wood already in use  . If i were you i would go and see you chairman/secretary and see if they can do something about it

Yeah, surely it doesn't take Allotment Etiquette to not be a thief? I had some wood on my plot for my greenhouse base that went missing. It is just theft plain and simple, not a mistake.

We are going to see what happens, if they take it again I will report them to the allotment society.

Especially as we were hoping to get that allotment for ourselves and they stole it from under our noses.

All I can say is, I'm very pleased that the plot appears to have been used as the allotment "dump" for about 10 years so they will have their work cut out cleaning it up

yes i agree there's right and wrong..and stealing is wrong!

it's funny isn't it how personal and protective we are of our plots, it's not just the hard work that we put in but in my case it's something that's all mine, it really is my space, my escape from the rest of the world for a few hours. Oh dear, coming over all maudling....better go and see how toms are getting on!!

If that happened to me, I would have totaled thier plot, (Destroyed eveything on it) and left a calling card saying "wood thieves R Us!"

Although having said that, are you sure it was definately them?

There's nowt on it but rubbish and brambles, so that would probably have helped them !

it was deffo them - the wood was quite recognisable

I'd still be having a quiet word with the coucil to make them aware that it happened at all. Councils know only what they're told and can probably keep a better eye on things for you rather than it coming to 'war'. If the thieves put in their complaint, then the council can quickly deal with them.
