Guttering and vertical gardening
« on: June 02, 2013, 19:26 »
Ok I have emailed about some deep guttering on free cycle and I have this wacky idea of doing something fun with lettuce in guttering, have I lost the plot or could this work. If ot lettuce, what else would cope. These will be at home so I can water several times a day if needed.

Lots of pics on google but I'd like to hear wisdom from you lot before I Lowe my head on an idea that photoshopped

I saw this the other day on a fb page I regularly visit and thought of you and your vertical gardening. Am sure it would work well for lettuces although would obviously take up more space than guttering!

I was hoping to utilise a spare patch of wall by hanging the guttering but I like that too. Hehe

Oh dear I have really lost the plot with this.

We have two, one under the front room window and one under the porch. Trying salad leaves and cress, not sure they will work but its worth a try. Oh and alpine strawberries in the other.

Ignore the ant powder we uncovered two nests  >:(

I looked at that idea when I was sowing the peas in guttering, but I decided it would take too much watering. I would need an automatic watering system ;)

I've just harvested some lovely pak choi grown to maturity in guttering in my (very small) lean to green house. It's not got any drainage holes, so didn't dry out too much. Go for it!

Thats the bonus of this being right outside i can water when florence has a nap, early morning or late evening i dont have to go more than a step from the front door.

Pleased to report lettuce seem happy enough, alpines look better now they have had a few days. And cress is all starting to push up, need to work on spacing but i am now on the look out for more freecycle guttering

Not sure the neighbours like it though
