I chitted and sowed KW 2 peas per module ... 500 pea plants in all  :)
They where put out on the plot in April and  now 2 ft tall and full of flowers .
Also done the same with Petit pois peas ( 200 plants ) these are in the raised bed in the back yard ... they are about 8in tall and have no flowers as yet .

My first sowing of KW this year was a total failure. Out of three rows, just two seeds germinated. I think it was just too cold and wet for them. I did a second sowing on 12th May and they're all coming through nicely now.

Ditto and also with DD.  My short peas planted early have struggled a bit and. I have had to supplement them with some late sown module ones.  On the other hand my tall peas went in much later having had to wait for MrB to move the giant growing frame to this year's tall pea location.   I think that was a favour really as I have 100% germination on my CofE and Sutton's purple podded peas.

I sowed some in toilet tubes 26th April and then some on the plot 4th May (Douce Provence) neither has shown, although mange tout (Delikat) sown in tubes at the same time are doing fine.  Peas never seem to do well for me, always seem stunted and don't grow that many pods.

Yes mine are aldermans maxibo!
Mrsw

We'll ask DD his advice mrswashi!  Is it too late to direct sow some more peas now?  Or even to module sow some to plant out?  The ones I sowed in modules germinated really quickly so could be sowed and out in the ground pretty quick..... What do you reckon?  The aldermans I planted direct are such a poor show that I'm thinking of clearing the area and starting again....

In a normal year it would certainly not be too late.

What'll happen this year - no one knows  I've only just ordered some replacement seeds  ::)

Not too late at all, you can sow up to July.

However........ the later it gets, the more risk you run of the peas getting mildew.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ah thank you Mum and DD.  I'm 'on call' with work today so can't really go to the plot and do anything.  But sowing a few trays of peas will be just the job....Cheers!

DD - does Kelvedon Wonder have any mildew resistance at all? Bit of a pain that they're so late, because that does mean I can't really reuse the ground for something else afterwards. But I'll be content if I can get a good crop from them, first time I've tried this variety.

I have ONE MORE stupid question (for today anyway  ::)).  Should I put the module sown peas outside/keep them inside/covered to get them going?  The champion of england peas I sowed in modules I kept on kitchen window, covered til they germinated and then uncovered and out during day/in at night until they were about 3" high then out they went.  Of course that was ages ago in 'Spring' and now we are heading into 'Summer'...... ::

I'd do them the same as the CofE so they get a shift on  ;)

My peas are 'Boogie' variety and are growing no matter how many newbie errors I throw at them.... even the ones I planted end Feb are doing well, and the slugs don't seem to fancy them much either!
