Tomato time looming......
« on: May 05, 2013, 08:17 »
Looking at the ten day forecast, it seems as though the weather is on the up, down our way anyhow. Is anyone looking at the greenhouse temps at night and considering planting the tomatoes out in the next week or so?
All the squash, pumpkin and courgettes destined for the cold greenhouse have been planted out now as they were growing on in a non heated house anyway.
Who will risk it first?

I am desperate to get mine out (especially the squash) and if I just looked at this weeks temps I could be tempted. Next Mon/Tue has predicted lows of 2-3 though

Repotted for the second time my february sown ones and they're looking good.
They've always been in the unheated greenhouse in the garden and still are. Just need a couple more inches growth and a bit more room in the greenhouse!!

Need to harden off a few more seedlings!! :D

mine have been in the GH the last two nights (forgot to get them in) .... was worried last night as the night air had a nip in it when I left my 4yr old ballet show (so cute). The toms are OK but they will be coming in tonight, spent to much time giving them tender loving care I dont want to loose them now!   They are very large now so have to make 4 trips to get them all in!! :D

I hate throwing away perfectly good plants so I'm doing my usual juggling act trying to get the right number of each of 4 types without wasting any - Inca (old seed which I seem to remember was a bit iffy even last year) Red Alert (saved seed for the first time) Sweet Million and Sungold (not many in the packets so not over-generous with the sowing!)

Needless to say every single one has come so I'm now splitting them up, repotting, and wishing I had a bigger greenhouse!  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

9.5 degrees in the conservatory last night but I think I'll be playing it safe for a little while yet.  :)

Mine are in the plastic green house peppers too and have been for about 4 nights now, i dont know what the temp is at night  , they look happy enough so thats good enough for me, they are to big for the house now anyway, everything out there is tundering along, what ever happens i dont think we are getting any frosts, and if it is a bit cold for them, if they dont die they will recover.
