Spring cabbage planted last year...
« on: April 20, 2013, 09:59 »

We planted spring cabbage at the end of the growing season last year, but since we had a longer / colder winter they've only just started growing now.

I was just wondering, how much longer can I leave them in the ground before I have to pull them to make way for this years' sowings...?

Could / should I give them a spray of liquid seaweed to push them on a bit, as suggested by my dad?

Just trying to plan my planting for this year, but feel a bit stuck waiting for these to grow a bit.....  ::)

If you do not want to wait until they heart up you can cut them immature as spring greens. It is usually best to do that with some of them anyway as the hearts will all come at the same time.

If you want to push them on give them a pinch of sulphate of ammonia around the base  and stand back and watch  ;)

Been down today pottering, and so gave the cabbages a spray of liquid seaweed*.

*As recommended by a farmer friend who gave me the seaweed and said it would work better and quicker.
