Look at it as money in the bank. Because, all your chickens havent  started laying at the same time,it means that those that are yet to start laying will hopefully continue to lay after the time that the early layers stop. In this way the laying period of all your chickens combined will actually be extended. :D

I've had hens that are infertile, in as much as the eggs that they lay never hatch no matter which cock I put them in with, but in all my years, I don't think that I've had a genuine female hen that hasn't eventually laid eggs.
I suppose it must happen, but it must be really really rare.

I have a light sussex, a splash ? sussex and a red one, the red sussex's comb is really small and hasn't got any bigger, she is probably POL now. should it be the same size as the other sussex's?

HHmmm...no egg today...I wonder if she did it just to prove that even though she's the smallestof them all, she's the cleverest!
We are holding our breath wondering if she'll do anything exciting tomorrow!

She's about 24 weeks. We bought them all from a place near Salisbury and they were all between 12 and 14 weeks old at the end of August.

photos up and running thanks to your help and eldest son's knowledge!

Does anyone know how long it takes for a hen to brew an egg?
Azzi seems to lay at about midday and then the next day during mid afternoon.
She waited til 4.30ish today when it had gone dark.
We had the first eggs poached. They were small but delicious.
