Party time - we've had an egg!
« on: November 29, 2007, 22:07 »
Our araucana laid her first egg yesterday and another today..we are all so excited!!
Lovely little greeny/blue eggs. We hope she''ll deliver again tomorrow and then the children can have one each. Trouble is we haven't got any eggcups small enough :)
The other hens don't seem to have got the message that this what they are supposed to do even though Azzi has shown them!
I love having chickens

Me too, don't know whats got into them but all 3 silkie x laying and now the Black Rocks are in lay I have more eggs than I know what to do with.  Ducks too still doing a fab job usually 3-4 a day from my 4 ducks. :)

I notice since they have started laying the others are looking at them and maybe getting the idea too there is a very happy cockerel here with all these responsive females

Now I'm the total opposite, ( unlike you I can hear you mutter   ) my young pullets are laying like the clappers and I don't want them to

As you know, I show my chickens and you get a lot of points for how they actually feel in the judges hand when he picks them up. When chickens are laying, they go all baggy and saggy and lose some of their shape. I've been praying for cold weather or something to stop them from laying so that they have time to harden up before the shows. :D

We were in a similar situation with eggs from Polly & Daisy, ended up using cups from Sophia's (eldest daughter) barbie tea set, they were a perfect fit.

Oooooh I'm soooooooooooooo jealous.  Am waiting for "mother Hen" to produce an egg (my first egg!), but she's still caring for her "chicks" which must be 16 weeks+ by now!  Roll on spring, where all 3 should start.
Well done to your chook, could she send some laying vibes to mine

Got our POLs on 20th August, and 3 of them have never laid a single egg!  2 of them have really small combs still, so not sure if they are infertile.
