Still some snow on the plot.

Hope the new asparagus bed is ok!

Do asparagus beds have to be raised? I've dug down to hardcore, laid a puncture proof membrane and have been filling in with manure, (till the snow arrived).

Thinking of raising the level by a foot or so, any ideas if this will be sufficient?

If the puncture-proof membrane is not porous I suggest you remove it - asparagus needs good drainage and a deep root run more than anything else.

They don't have to be grown in raised beds but some people find that's the easiest way to provide good drainage and sufficient depth in heavy and/or shallow soils.

Just to keep this thread on topic  ::) I went up my garden yesterday and admired the soil - the first time I'd seen it for a couple of weeks!  :)

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

This is why asparagus roots should not be restricted!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Moved 10 wheelbarrow loads of manure to the bean trench. Looking good.  8)
Was gonna do the same with the new asparagus bed, but got side tracked (actually I was meant to do the asparagus bed first). Listened to a sorry tale of a lottie holders best friends mothers death after a fall. Such a shame as she was quite a spritely person before by all accounts.
Dug up parsnips and leeks, and top dressed (is that the right term?) an area for the home-germinated broad beans to go into.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Before the rain came, I put down many, many barrow loads of woodchips on my paths (my plot is half way down the site so have to move them manually). Back is aching now, so perhaps it's a good job rain stopped play.

This afternoon I have sown parsnips, carrots and peas, finished weeding the veggie beds, and had a general tidy up - feel good now so looking forwards to a glass of wine later:)
Now what shall I do today?

Day off today. Was hoping to spend some time at the lottie, but it just kept on raining. Doesn't seem to ever want to stop. Checked the forecast and the outlook is more rain the rest of the week and more next week! It feels so gloomy and miserable. I have serious doubts about this year.

Checked on the polytunnel as the wind had really picked up ,and was giving it a good
  hammering .
Had to put some tiles back on the old stables which had blown off.

nice and bright after work. Headed straight to plot. Found out when I got there that I had forgotten the keys.

Ditto ..... Not the car breaking down...... But didn't get to the lottie today 'cos totally misread the weather forecast that said rain!! Given that the new half plot I have just taken on has a shed (actually an Anderson shelter) I would have kept dry if it had rained. I still can't get used to having somewhere to shelter from the elements so wasted a day doing chores indoors and then grocery shopping!
