Cut the grass and transplanted the Jerusalem Artichokes
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

More weeding - but a question! Does anyone have a picture of parsnip seedlings- never grown them before and can't sort them from weeds!

Busy weekend for us ... Erected a pea frame and planted peas ad courgettes. Weeded the onion bed. Sunday hubby mowed the path and did the edges, I planted beet root, marigolds, spring onions and sowed little gem and iceberg lettuce as well as radish and rocket. Started weeding/prepping our brassica bed and gave the whole thing a good water. We planted runner bead at home. Happy days  :D

No chance of getting to the plot today as it is torrential rain here.

We spent a good few hours over the weekend there though:

-Continued planting up fruit border
-Planted up runner beans and built munty frame
-Planted more french beans and peas
-Sowed more salad seeds
-Planted banana shallots

same here, no point in going to the plot in weather as wet as this.

Dry but cloudy day so spent 4 hours moving stuff out if the way and digging up more nettles and brambles, one day I might find something interesting!!! Then moved raised bed so now have RB6 installed. Planted some home grown sweetpeas which might flower if the summer ever gets here and some gifted thornless blackberry. A good result, very worn out now though!
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

Desperately hoping for no rain so I can plant my sweetcorn without fear of them being washed away and feeding Noah and his Ark full of animals, it isn't called the Lake District for nothing I guess.

Got some seeds into the ground (beets) and before I got the tatties covered up again, a deluge of rain hammered down for 40 minutes, soaked to the skin and no doubt every seed bounced into the next plot.

Not sure how to check without disturbing them, I will just sow another row of them close by just in case   :)

Was there all day, did loads (lots of standing and staring too)
put up an X frame again, didn't like the first one.
scattered slug pellets.
tied up the pea plants a la DD.
scattered slug pellets.
planted out cosmos and sweet william in my cutting garden.
scattered slug pellets.
started to clear an overgrown section that I have ignored for the past 2 years, its full of couch grass mixed in with montbretia, fuchsia, dandelions and buttercup.
And you guessed it......scattered slug pellets.

Made the nettle tea, did a bit of hoeing between the garlic and brassica’s I did have some massive mushrooms or toadstool growing in the poly and in between the garlic. Then back down this evening to lay two rat traps that arrived this afternoon.

Sown beetroot and more carrots, as the last lot failed. Parsnips are doing okay and now weeded thanks to Salmo. cabbages getting big, had to recover them . Cauliflower looks like it's being eaten buy something , its not slugs as I put slug pellets down and they have been covered with fine netting since they were planted, but there is a lot of ants in the area . :(

After a long absence I managed a whole 3 hours on the plot today!!

Wow the grass has grown quickly but it'll keep until the week-end.

Today I managed to:
  • transplant red onions and shallots (late? Tell me about it!!)
  • hoe hoe hoe (and it's not even 25th Dec)
  • plant out sweet-peas

Even had time to stick the kettle on.....but it didn't suit me.
A really pleasant break after a week-long slog...

Hubby went up last night, but I am not sure how much he got done. He didn't come home with a bucket of weeds.  ??? And I know the will be some.

He was chatting away about other people so I take it he did more chatting than working  ::)He did however bring me another two lettuce.  oh my god I am all lettuced out
