Thanks Jay.

I havealso  found a few other articles on burying them when pricking out so I am reasonably happy. The seedlings have 2 small proper leaves now; is it OK to put them in pots now or should I wait until these leaves are big?

I have brought my compost in to warm up. I was thinking of putting it in the pots and in the propagator so I didn't cool the seedlings down when I put them in.

Some people seem to say that you need to harden the seedlings up before putting them in their pots by leaving the top of the propagator off for a day or so. Is this necessary?

I would take the top of the propagator a few days before you pot them on

That way their leaves are working properly again, before you disturb their roots  :D

I know that I get teased for having a propagator but my peppers and chillies are about 10-12" high now.

They are in 5" pots and soon I will have to pot them on. The question is do I bury more of the stem (I can see roots there) or keep them at the same soil level.

Also I am confused about whether I should pinch out the growing tip or not?

I think if you are about to pot them on follow the previous advice and bury upto the seed leaves if still there.

My varieties from seed only went into 5" pots a couple of weeks ago, since then they have grown 1" (they are on south facing windowsills in a house) and this weekend I topped each pot up with perlite up to the seed leaves. 2 reasons for doing so, preventing a seemingly harmless mould I've been suffering but also stops those pesky little black flies that pepper plants are prone to from laying their eggs.

With regards to pinching out, I think it depends on variety and personal preference. I don't usually but wished I'd pinched out my "Hot Stuff" as it's now triffid like
