Hi there

My speckeldy hen has woken up this morning with a cough.  She seems a little bit lethargic and has a rattly cough.

She's scratching away with the other two and is eating and drinking but just seems a bit "off colour" to me.

As an extremely new Chicken Mum (I've only had them 10 days) I'm not sure whether this is just a bit of a cold which will clear up or whether it's a symptom of something more serious.

I've put some crushed garlic in one drinker and some ACV in the other one to try and give her a bit of a boost.

Could it just be that the stress of being moved has lowered her immune system and she'll pick up again or should I get her down to the vet tomorrow?

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Hello Skywise,

It sounds as if she could have a respiratory infection.  This can be brought on by the stress of moving.  You may need to tale her to a vet who can prescribe some antibiotics.

Yes, I thought so.

I'll make an appointment to take her down tomorrow. Luckily we have a poultry friendly vet in Llanelli!
