cant shift the cough!
« on: June 28, 2011, 23:22 »
hi,

one of my hens has a persistent cough (more like a bark really), no real nasal discharge. she seems happy enough and is eating, laying etc. this has been going on for a while now and despite dosing her with tylan on a couple of occasions she doesnt appear to totally get rid of it.
Up until now the others with her dont seem affected and they get dosed with the tylan as its in the water, however i noticed that one did sneeze today so going to try to dose again.
is there anything else i need to use, they were wormed with flubenvet pellets for a week about 4 weeks ago.

Perhaps you need a different antibiotic. I wouldn't keep repeating the tylan - they can become immune to it, plus what did the vet say was the problem when you took her?
when worming did you check she was getting her fair share of pellets? Have you checked for gape worm? Some worms need a longer treatment period.

Staffies are softer than you think.

you may be able to see them if you open her beak and look down her throat.

Here is something which might help:-
