my new young girls will not go in the coop at night
« on: September 06, 2011, 21:02 »
Hi, i have been keeping chickens for a 5 months now and am hooked and never thought i would ever have as much fun and pleasure out of it as i am.
i have purchased a 2nd hand ark and got 3 more beautiful girls who are 15 weeks old,the prob i have got is that they will not go in the coop at night and just wonder around the run, and obviously i am pannicking a bit as i do not want to risk leaving them out in case mr fox pays a visit ! i have managed to get them up the ramp and in over the past 2 nights, my other 5 girls always make there way to bed even when i first had them, will they eventually do the same?  as ever i am grateful for any advice. thankyou , WAYNE ::) ::)
wayne.
enjoy life we are not here for long

As they are just new you may have to pick them up and put them to bed at night for the first few days.  They'll soon get the hang of it :)

As your ark is second hand make sure there's no red mite in there.  Another popular tip is to hang a torch in the coop - this lights the way for the new girls.

I have been putting my new girls to bed for about 8 weeks and i think they have finally got the idea. Last night they were all snuggled up together.

Keep at it they will get used to it in time

Also, be aware that some chooks are dirty stop outs - my 2 girls go to bed late compared to most of my friends chickens!!!
