help needed with new plot
« on: January 12, 2010, 20:21 »
Good evening all

As I stated in my last question I have just taken n a new allotment plot.

I still have to clear the plot which I am hoping to do this weekend. When I put manure from the cattle at work on the plot where I am intending to grow potatoes, is it ok to leave it on top of the ground and dig in a couple of weeks before I plant them. Or is it best to dig in straight away?

Someone said that I should put lime on brassica land instead of cattle manure. Where would I buy some lime from? Would my local big garden centre have some? How much would I need for a bed that is 20ft by 15 ft?

|sorry for being a pain

Many thanks

Alex

I'm not sure about the manure, but would suggest you test the soil to see if it needs any lime added to it first. The results would also give you an idea of how much to add, if necessary.
I buy my lime from Wilkinson's but most garden centres will stock it :)
