I'm in the same boat.  Be methodical.  Plan out your beds if they're not there already.  Some people like thin longs ones you can reach to the centre of without standing on, other prefer them wider.  You've got a few months before you can start really planting.

My initial priority was to prepare some beds for my strawberries, raspberries and jerusalem artichokes along with tidying of the greenhouses ready to use them for propagation.  If i get ahead of myself, i'll be able to start clearing the main beds before i start of my seeds.  If not, i'll have some time after i've sown them whilst they establish a bit.

 SDA moment,

Digging the plot today and buried in the ground were two slowworm, not knowing this i managed to dig off the last few inches of one of  the tails.
I popped them both in a pot of mud and grass and took home to clean it up.

Will  it survive???

I will return it to the plot in a day or so if it does.

Funny thing is,  chopping thru a worm does not create anything more than ___ooops!
But harming a snake like creature makes me feel realy guilty, must be somthing to do with the fact that it looks at you.

Anyway,, heres hop.ing
When the sun shines i dig,
When rain pours i dig
When the wind blows---I SURF.

id take em back in the morning with the heat from the house they are liable to wake up completly from hibernation and die from cold gun . pile a heap up someplace safe and then stick them back in , the tail may heal if its clean .most lizards have the knack of losing a tail and surviving no probs
still alive /............

8)  8)  Well  ,, maybe i will get the messages i write in the right place one day  (slowworms)

Anyway,  I took on a plot at the end of November 06 , it was so overgrown that i could hardly step into the plot more than a couple of metres. If you picture a patch about 3x1 metres in your head each time you dig and aim too finish that on each visit you will be suprised how quick it gets dug over--- you will also be suprised of  the amount of useful junk that appears as you go.

I was so pleased with my efforts that i got the plot nextdoor as well.

Good luck and happy diggin.

Poor Munty - let him have his moment - don't want to bring him to reality too quick.

In an ideal world we would all have the time and muscles and somewhere to ditch the rubbish and could clear the entire plot.So I agree with those who suggest clearing off the top growth,it`s less overwhelming and you may have paths/beds under there, then start digging a bed at a time and get as many roots out as you can so that you have somewhere to begin planting.Too many people give up bacause the task seems to big.
