Mung Beans, Adzuki Beans
« on: September 03, 2019, 19:40 »
Hello, I'm a newbie here and to gardening in general. This is my first year of trying to grow anything, and it's been a whirlwind of disaster, mild failure, and gleeful success.  :) I understand now that I started a few months too late for my general crack at growing beans. Despite this error on my part, the French beans are doing very well and I've been (bean?  ::) ) enjoying fresh pickings for many weeks and are looking to cut back on picking and try saving for drying (I love mixed bean chilli con carne mashups).

My mung and adzuki beans don't seem to be so forthcoming. I understand the UK might not be the best environment for them and, again, I started a few months late; but general research on the subject seems to be filled with contradictory advice. Most sources say to hold back watering once flowers appear to encourage bean growth. I have two sets of each bean: one set in the greenhouse and another in containers. They both roughly flowered at the same time, and both sets only show bean casings (?) so far on a few plants. The rest seem to be stuck in a phase of showing young, mildly furry bean pods for the past three or four weeks. No change.

Because I started too late, I'm fine with minimal/zero yield, but I was wondering if anything can be done to get a little more out of the experiment at this late stage? Also looking to next year and having a little more wherewithal going forward, so anyone who has grown mung and/or adzuki beans in the UK... all tips/war stories would be very much appreciated.  :)

Regards
