Mung beans for green manure.
« on: August 05, 2008, 11:01 »
So I was a bit shocked at the cost of green manure seeds at the garden centre and realised it would be too expensive buying enough for my plot. Then it occured to me that my local health food shop happens to sell mung beans for sprouters loose. I looked it up and mung beans apparently make a good green manure for over winter and can be sown between nov-feb in temperate climates. Has anyone used mung beans as green manure here, and did it work for you?

Don't know about suitability for green manure, but if you do go for it try to get Tesco ones rather than H&B, which have v poor germination - the Tesco ones are brilliant and I've started sprouting them again.

I get mine from the local health shop, not supermarkets or chains. I haven't had any failures when sprouting these ones and they are a much better price as I buy them loose :)
