Vandalised Garlic
« on: April 01, 2014, 17:03 »
I just popped into my plot to do half an hours weeding to find someone had paid a visit and pulled up most of my garlic and trampled all over the bed. They left the garlic strewn about and the roots had dried a bit but not too badly. My question is whether it's worth re-planting them or will they just bolt and be a waste of a bed?

What a nasty surprise. I have transplanted garlic in the past and it did fine.  Plant them, give them some water and a general feed.  Fingers crossed!

Kids footprints all over the bed and about 40 garlic strewn over the plot and the rest in the bed with the tops ripped off them! Definitely not birds I'm afraid!!!

Even with greens torn off, the garlic will recover if replanted. You might want to drop a word to other folks so they can watch for the little vandals.

I had 4 plot holders come straight up to me when I arrived ant tell me what happened. They will keep an eye out. I have informed the council but what else can you do??!! Not going to get stressed about it but its disappointing all the same. I will just keep my fingers crossed they recover and if not I will try again next year!

I wonder if any of their parents noticed a rather pungent smell on their kids' hands?? In the past, a good sound clip on the ear from a local pc used to do the trick but, I'm afraid, not these days.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Ripping up garlic plants its hardly the height of fun is it  ::)

Anyway you can be safe in the knowledge that 10 minutes after they ripped up your garlic atleast one of them rubbed there eyes with there fingers resulting in a nasty stinging sensation for several hours lets hope this is the case it prove a deterrent to the rascals.
