Egg laying Duck
« on: March 14, 2014, 15:41 »
Hi  I have a pair of Apricot ducks and the female has started laying. She did not seem bothered about the first lot she laid so I took them away. Now I have found that she has  made a nest in the hedge and laid six more which she does sit on. I am concerned because a) the hedge is on the lane side so could new born ducklings could fall down onto the lane, and b) which is probably more important, I can't let her sit on them overnight out on her own.  There is one egg in their duck house so should I put the other six in with them???

You need to coop her up but not till she is sitting full time ! then move her at night in the dark and she will settle  ;)
I cook therefore I grow
