We're growing various varieties in the greenhouse, and first to ripen were the Tigerella - delicious!  I was beginning to think that none of them were going to ripen and I'd be up to my ears in green tomato chutney!!     Let's hope this sunshine keeps going  8) :D

Moneymaker were the first to start ripening, much to OH's pleasure!  and today I have picked moneymaker, gardner's delight, tigerella, gartenpearle, floridity and yellow plum oh and some roma and inca for the freezer.

It is a delight to start munching on nice fresh homegrown tomatoes!

We have red  :D.

The magnificent seven

..... erm, but they are of the 100's and 1000's variety .... so, think marbles and shrink them a little ... and shrink them again ... tiny, but they're red

Even though its nearly Autumn now!!

I grew some 100's and 1000's Shoozie, there are loads of them, but they were so fiddly to pick I won't bother anymore.  Pennydog loved them though!!

I've picked quite a few sungold (I've given 2 punnets away and froze another punnet at the weekend with the thought of making tomato sauce out of them - this was a mistake, it to ages and was very fiddle peeling and deseeding such small tomtoes!).

I noticed that one of my beef tomatoes is turning, but the plum tomatoes - although a decent size on one of the plants aren't looking like turning any time soon!

Next year I want to grown some normal tomatoes, I'd like variety but the price of seed packets makes this a little pohibative! (my sunfolds were 20p from T&M!)

I don't bother to de-seed them for sauce, and only take the skins off bigger tomatoes ... I don't see the point when you spend so much time nurturing them to then throw half of every tomato back on the compost!!

As for growing more varieties, if you have any like-minded friends you could all grow a different variety from seed and then swap them around  :)

I too have my first ripe tomato, a Golden Sunrise.  It has been ripening for weeks, and so far is my only ripe tomato from 15 plants, all outside.
