Tomato ripening
« on: June 14, 2012, 15:09 »
With all this bad weather and the fact that we need warm days and night how will this effect my tomatoes.  The cherry plants all have some small tomatoes on and some look near to full size, but could they just remain green until it warms up?

Some of the money makers are about the size of golf balls so could take a lot longer.

They will ripen. You just have to be patient. It is only early June

At which point do you say they are big enough and you aid with the ripening process?  I know I sound impatient.

You are doing very well, or planted them in heated greenhouse/conservatory, if you get ripe tomatoes before July ;)

Patience is required, they'll stay green til they're ready  ::)

When they start turning it happens quite quickly, you notice they go from green to red in days. My largest is the size of a small plum so yours are ahead of mine.

I have been growing Gardeners' Delight in an unheated greenhouse for 20 years and the earliest ripening I have ever had was the very end of July. (seed sown early March)

Thanks for the replies.  I just hope that there are no more brown dry marks.
