How old are they?

If they are still quite young you may not get any eggs this year as we are now into colder days/nights so it may well be spring before you get any.

Most hens wont lay when in moult.

It may be they are still settling in combined with age as well.

They wont do what they dont want to

I am not an expert but my instinct is that they will start to lay in their own time.  Moulting and longer nights will not help.  I agree with Min here that they may not start laying until the spring.  However they may surprise you  :)  There's nothing like the first egg.  All you have to do is decide how to cook it.   Good luck and keep us posted.  :)

I agree with the others that the shorter daylight hours and cold weather may mean you have a while to wait for eggs, and there's probably nothing to worry about.

BUT!  We are assuming that your pullets have everything they need to be healthy.  So:
  • Are they being fed on a balanced staple diet of layer's pellets or mash?
  • Do they have access to clean water all the time?
  • Are they housed in a clean run, away from the worst of the weather, and do they have a clean, dry coop to sleep in?
  • Are they generally in good health - no sneezes, runny noses, no parasites, etc?

Assuming you have answered yes to all those questions, all you can do now is wait!  :)

Isn't it exciting when you get your first egg! I got mine within a couple of hours of getting my girls - I was prepared for that one to be "in the pipeline" and to have to wait a while for more, but I've had my 4 girls for 4 days now and have had 9 eggs!

I gave my first egg away to someone special, and several more have gone to neighbours - I've just had my first taster for lunch today.......2 fried eggs on toast, sunny side up   :D :D

Hope you get lots more to follow chicken george25 !!
