Smelly peat-free compost...
« on: June 21, 2011, 18:03 »
Hi all

I've been using been and queued peat-free compost for several years, not always the best but I've stuck with it...if anyone is buying any in the near future, watch out - I bought 2 bags at the weekend, one fine and the other smelling like the bottom of a pond - and the smell really clings. I took it back (to another branch) and got an exchange no problem but I did notice the same smell coming from other bags - so some sort of batch problem? I let the staff know but thought I'd warn other potential users...

I've had this with branded versions from my local garden centre. it smells foul. I think the bags get a bit waterlogged and then start to digest anaerobically
